Mike Gold - MSU - Bozeman, NSAC Team Advisor

Our mission statement lists education as a primary focus for our organization. One of several methods to accomplish that objective is through the National Student Advertising Competition. This year the board voted to invest in college students that are competing in the AAF sponsored competition. Our speaker, Mike Gold, is the advisor to that very successful team.

Mike Gold has close on 35 years experience in marketing and advertising. He started his career in London and then embarked on a world tour from which he has never returned.

Mike has held the titles of President, CEO, and Worldwide Account Director for a number of global advertising agencies including Saatchi & Saatchi (London, Auckland, New York and San Francisco), BBDO (New York), Publicis (New York). Mike has handled the global advertising needs of companies such as British Airways, Heineken, FedEx, M&M Mars and Hewlett Packard.

Ten years ago after a life of globe hopping involving more than 70 countries, Mike decided (actually his wife decided) to settle in Bozeman MT. After 6 months of fishing and golf, Mike needed to go back to work, he was appointed as an adjunct professor of marketing at Montana State University where he teaches classes in global marketing and advertising. Mike is the advisor to the Ad Club team that represents Montana in the National Student Advertising Competition. Mike is also the CEO of Flying Horse Communication.

Our 3rd Business, Advertising and Marketing Event

Again in keeping with our mission statement, we invite 100 High School juniors and seniors for our members to give some real world information regarding careers in our industry. Our first session was February 11, 2014, our second October 14, 2014 and now we will take the information from those two events and continue to massage the process to give the attendees the most benefit. We do this at no costs to the school district even picking up the tab for lunch, transportation and substitute teachers.

Joanne Schecter
Executive Vice President of Club Services

Joanne Schecter joined the staff of the American Advertising Federation in 1993.  As executive vice president of AAF club services, she oversees the success of the 200 AAF member clubs nationwide. 

Joanne has extensive experience with association management and uses this background to write, manage and conduct training seminars and workshops on strategic club management. Joanne manages the AAF club services department, which is responsible for the services and benefits available to AAF member clubs.  Joanne also oversees the success of the National American Advertising Awards Competition.  In addition, she is the staff liaison to the AAF Council of Governors, National Ad 2 and the Executive Directors network.  She also works closely with the AAF National Board of Directors.

Joanne brings the member perspective to her position in that she first became involved with the AAF network over 25 years ago as an AAF member.  She served on the Board of Directors for the Utah Advertising Federation where she was elected Club President in 1988.  Under her leadership, the Utah Advertising Federation was honored as the AAF Club of the year in 1989.  Joanne was subsequently named President of the Year.

From 1990 to 1993, Joanne was the executive director of the Advertising Club of Los Angeles where she managed this major market club serving over 1200 members.  In 1993 Joanne was responsible for the club taking top honors as AAF Club of the Year.

Joanne’s professional career includes experience as Account Executive for advertising agencies Borders, Perrin and Norrander/Seattle & Salt Lake City and Harris & Love Advertising/Salt Lake City and as director of promotions and public relations for Dixon Paper Company,
Salt Lake City.

Joanne will be at BAM on Tuesday to observe and then give us an update on the National AAF on Wednesday.

2015 American Advertising Awards Show

One of the projects we do each year is the American Advertising Awards. We are the Montana Portal for this national competition. The awards show is like the Grammy Awards for creatives. Those of you that have been to the show know what an energized evening it is. Put a couple of hundred creative folks in a beautiful environment, hand out some silver and gold and see what happens. This will be our first meeting in March. Ad Club members get free admission as well as a couple of drink tickets, can you spell WIN? Of course you can, and if not I just did it for you.

Michael L Morrison, is a former ad club member and Great Falls resident who led marketing for D.A. Davidson until 2014. He is now a marketing and management consultant with more than twenty years’ executive experience helping financial services companies with strategic marketing and communications solutions for the wealth management, capital markets, specialty finance, private equity and venture capital businesses.

Michael works with CEOs and other C-suite executives to discover the extraordinary characteristics that set their companies apart, then partners with business units to design and implement marketing strategies that make a difference for companies’ cultures and bottom lines.

Michael has also worked with companies in the travel, hospitality, health & fitness and high tech industries. He serves clients across the U.S. and abroad from offices in Portland, Oregon.
